Znug ZecOO electric motorbike hails from the futureBy Edwin Kee on 02/08/2012 03:52 PST
When you lay your eyes on the ZecOO electric motorbike from design company Znug, you might think to yourself that this is a pre-cursor to those lovely looking Tron bikes from the future (although other folks have already come up with roadworthy versions). Regardless, the Znug ZecOO electric motorbike is an amazing mode of transportation to look at, sporting a sleek, aggressive and completely unconventional design. Designed by former Toyota designer Kota Nezu, it was assembled and put together in a custom bike shop that is located in Tokyo. The entire project took half a year to materialize, starting from the drawing board all the way to the prototype that you see here now. As for the frame, it comprises a combination of solid wood and alloy, certainly making it greener than it already is. Apart from that, there is also a conventional fork steering at the front that relies on a central hub system, while cantilevered shock absorbers and a rear wheel belt rounds off the list of features.
No idea on whether this particular two-wheeled beauty is going to undergo testing in spring later this year, and as to whether it will be roadworthy enough or not, that is another story altogether. It does look as though it can zip by fast, but as we all know with vehicles, looks do not really matter until the rubber meets the road – that is when you find out whether the ZecOO is really able to tear up the asphalt or not.
Parker Brothers Choppers does the Detonator

The Tron Lightcycle has certainly caught just about anyone and everyone’s attention whenever they take a look at it, and the Parker Brothers decided to wow the world even further with their latest creation which will definitely turn even more heads by rolling out the Detonator. Now, I don’t think that even with a name like that, people are going to run away from it – no sir, folks will most probably flock to it like bees to honey, since this particular chopper boasts a 30″ front wheel as well as dual 96 volt electric motors located in the hub of the rear wheel which measures a slightly smaller 27″ in terms of radius.
This electric bike will run on lithium-ion batteries, taking around an hour to juice up when you plug it in to a 110 volt outlet. Parker Brothers claims that this little number of theirs is capable of ferrying you around for 80 to 100 miles on a full battery, and it has also been bench tested to hit a top speed of 120mph. If you have $100,000 lying around in your bank and live in the US, Europe and Saudi Arabia, then this cool bike can be yours.

Energica electric motorcycle looks really mean

Electric vehicles are starting to gain a whole lot of traction, since they do their bit in helping reduce the amount of greenhouse emissions, not to mention being far easier on your wallet at the end of the day simply because you need not fork out an arm and a leg each time you “fill ‘er up”. While electric cars have been in the limelight most of the time, there are also two wheelers that take on the zero gas challenge, and CRP Racing’s latest model, the Energica, that will boast of an all-electric powertrain that has 100kW of power ready and raring to go.
The styling exudes a classic Italian look where two wheelers are concerned, and can hit a top speed of 220 km/h although I would recommend you not go that fast unless you are really skilled and have a high paying insurance policy. Other specifications of the Energica include 16kgm of torque, and 150km of range with but a single charge. Currently in the development phase, it remains to be seen just how much the Energica will be priced – but this is guaranteed to turn heads for sure.

BRD RedShift MX electric motorcycle

You have probably read to the death about electric cars, but what about the two-wheeled brethren known as motorcycles? That is what we’re looking at with the BRD RedShift MX electric motorcycle which is touted to deliver a performance equal to that of a 250cc dirt bike.
The RedShift MX motocrosser and RedShift SM supermoto are the maiden models to roll off BRD – a San Francisco startup that came about thanks to guys who love riding, and realized they might as well make money while they’re at it, delivering faster motorcycles. After all, isn’t it better to have someone who knows what motorcyclists want to be behind the drawing board?
The BRD RedShift MX sports 40 horsepower and will tip the scales at around 240 pounds without any lights, placing it just about on par with the KTM 250 SX-F. There is a 5.2 kilowatt-hour battery pack inside, giving it up to 20 miles each. Range-wise, 5.2 kilowatt-hours is more or less the standard for around 50 miles of commute-style riding, but if you want to open up the throttle, then expect the mileage to drop.

2011 Zero Motorcycles can be juiced at public recharging stations

Zero Motorcycles will be offering some improvements for its electric-motorcycle 2011 lineup. One of the most important upgrades will be the ability for the bikes to be recharged at public charging stations, since it can now accept DC (direct current) fast charging. Aside from that, the bike can also use a plug accessory to make it compatible with any charger using the SAE J1772 plug, a five-pin charging system and coupler agreed upon by the members of the SAE, which is currently used for fast-charging stations for EVs such as the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt. Aside from that, the Zero S and Zero DS models have gotten an improved battery pack that the company claims will improve efficiency by 12.5 percent, allowing you to cover more ground between charges

Richard Gryzch has had enough with heading off to the gas station whenever his bike’s fuel tank runs empty that he literally took things into his own hands and come up with the Solar Flyer – a solar-powered bike. This project took over two years to complete, and it is believed to be the first solar charged electric motorcycle in the world. Amazingly enough, it has a range of 50 miles and can hit speeds of up to 90mph when you let the throttle rip, although Gryzch aims to improve its maximum range to 300 miles in due time. We wish Richard the best in all of his endeavors, and hope to see something like this commercialized in the near future.

What do you think of when you envision the future? Electric cars that are super efficient that the world’s energy crisis is already solved? How about electric bicycles that offer far more than what current models deliver? The Faraday electric bicycle concept that you see above was specially constructed for the Oregon Manifest design competition, where ideas factory Ideo decided to work hand in hand, or should we say wheel with wheel with bike builders Rock Lobster Cycles.
It might seem like any other bicycle from the outside, but all the futuristic settings have been hidden within the frame, including parallel top tubes that hold a series of lithium-ion batteries that will send power to the front-hub motor, and all of those are controlled from the green box located right under the seat cluster. A couple of prongs located up in front function as built-in headlights, while the base holds a modular racking system so that you are able to swap out different carrying mechanisms like a trunk or child seat with the pop of a bolt.
It will take some time before this concept becomes reality – lets hope that it happens sooner rather than late
